Did you know there is a connection between sleep and our blood sugar levels?
Is this a benefit that you are looking for as you up-level your sleep?
Restorative sleep helps to lower unhealthy blood sugar levels by promoting healthy systems. Decreased sleep is a risk factor for increased blood sugar levels. Even partial sleep deprivation over one night increases insulin resistance, which can in turn increase blood sugar levels.
Since a lack of sleep and blood sugar levels are related, it makes sense that not sleeping well can raise blood sugar levels. Researchers have suggested the following connections between sugar and lack of sleep or sleep problems:
*Sleep disordered breathing is associated with higher glucose levels
*Obstructive sleep apnea severity is associated with increased fasting glucose
*Poor sleep is associated with a reduced ability to control glucose levels in diabetic patients
*Inadequate sleep is associated with type 2 diabetes biomarkers, even in children
*Sleep loss is associated with increased glucose levels in hospitalized patients with and without diabetes

Thank you Ruth for your amazing research. This adds to the information about increased cortisol levels and my craving salty and sugary foods through the day. Better sleep quality and duration will greatly help with controlling my glucose levels as I sleep and when I arise. I now have more information to help manage my diabetes.

I did know this due to diabetes. My blood sugar leaves were high, and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and had to use a CPAP. I hated it. But once I got everything under control and loss a little over 100lbs. Things changed. I just lack energy now…

Blood sugar levels, diet, metabolism, are all so integrally involved in sleep and general health. This information is so important. If we do not sleep, our metabolism is sluggish, and then our blood sugar levels can raise. Thank you for all of this important information.

Great information.
I also have a cpap & found an adapter that allows me to diffuse oils. It attaches to both cpap hoses. It holds a pad that the oils are on.

I had no idea that sleep apnea lead to increased fasting glucose. Fascinating. Explains so many things

Please limit your sugar intake which is found not just in plain sugar, but in all carbs, Carbs are grains, wheat, potatoes, rice, corn, starchy veggies, stick with good quality protein, cruciferous veggies, berries. Intermittent fast which is easy if you stop eating after dinner and skip breakfast if possible, waiting to eat lunch. Just dont eat after dinner or during the night.

Thanx @Nancy Gordon
Your help is very much appreciated but doesn't skipping breakfast spike cortisol which is hard on the adrenal glands when done regularly?

Just Curious but doesn't supplementing with dōTERRA protein before bed help with blood sugar spikes during the night?

It really is interesting to take the time to dig into this information! It makes sense that sleep can have a positive or negative affect on our lives. In a society that is go, go, go-we are all sleep deprived and unhealthy. Thank you for the education you provide to us, Ruth!

I had not heard of the connection between blood sugar and sleep. I have several friends with type 1 diabetes and I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy. Very interesting!

Thank you it taught me even more about the importance of getting the proper amount of rest. Do you think it also plays a roll in pre diabetics?

Thanks for all the good information above. I found having a mouth guard in my mouth for TMJ has helped me to where I don't need a CPAC machine cause the mouth guard helps me keep my mouth closed at night and I can just use my regular oxygen.
